Publicity and Public Education
The implementation of the Action Plan for Enhancing Drinking Water Safety in Hong Kong (“Action Plan”), notably the Enhanced Water Quality Monitoring Programme (“Enhanced Programme”) and Water Safety Plan (“WSP”) for buildings, will require public participation and endorsement of building owners and management agents. As such, a comprehensive publicity and education programme is required to help promote individual components of the Action Plan. In this connection, WSD has strengthened its various channels of communication with the general public and has launched a few new initiatives that help promote the Action Plan. Details are as follows:
Dedicated Webpages
- WSD official website has been revamped with a view to improving its user-friendliness and accessibility. Recent and new publicity materials and information on water safety include
-

Water Use Tips
-
General Acceptance (GA) products
- A search directory is created that lists out all water supply pipes and fittings, water heaters and materials which possess valid GA issued by the Water Authority.
TV and Radio Announcements in the Public Interest (APIs)
- TV or radio API is one of the most effective ways of raising public awareness of drinking water quality. An example of initiative is “Follow smart and healthy drinking habits”, a set of tailor-made TV and radio APIs broadcasted on all television and radio channels in Hong Kong. In this API, Water Save Dave and artist Simon Yam give useful tips to the audience for using drinking water in a safe and green way.
Posters and Leaflets
- In order to enhance the public’s knowledge and awareness of the measures implemented by WSD in safeguarding drinking water safety as well as to provide water use tips, WSD published a number of useful leaflets and posters for distribution to the public:
