Currently, there are no international organizations or countries that have established standards for the microplastic content in drinking water. The World Health Organization's publications, "Microplastics in Drinking-water" in 2019 and "Dietary and inhalation exposure to nano- and microplastic particles and potential implications for human health" in 2022, indicate that there is currently insufficient data to show that microplastics may have health effects, and do not recommend routine monitoring of microplastics in drinking water. At this stage, more in-depth research should be conducted, such as developing standard sampling and monitoring methods for microplastics in drinking water, to further determine their sources, impacts, and assess the effectiveness of different drinking water treatment processes. |
