Hong Kong strict controls on PFAS from source

As a signatory of the Stockholm Convention, China passed the "New Pollution Control Action Plan" issued by the State Council in May 2022, which implements strict controls on PFAS. The Dongjiang River Basin is subject to stringent raw water quality management in Mainland China, ensuring the safety of drinking water for citizens. On the other hand, the local catchment area is protected under the Waterworks Ordinance and the Country Parks Ordinance, receiving proper safeguards against pollution.

Most of the gathering grounds are designated as part of the territory’s Country Parks to conserve the precious natural environment of Hong Kong. The public should refrain from contaminating them (see Figure 2). Hikers in particular should protect these precious water resources while enjoying the beautiful scenery there. To promote the "Take your litter home" message and keep the country parks clean.
