Water Supply for New Buildings adopting Modular Integrated Construction (MiC)

Specific Submission Requirements for MiC Projects

When applying for water supply to new building projects adopting MiC method (MiC projects), applicants of MiC projects shall not only submit the plumbing proposal but also provide the following additional submissions:

  1. a section specifying off-site constructed plumbing installations in plumbing proposal; and
  2. supervision plan.

For parts of plumbing installations which will be covered up in the MiC factory, the following additional details shall also be submitted:

  1. shop drawings; and
  2. production schedule.

Off-site Supervision Requirements for Plumbing Works at MiC Factory

The plumbing works carried out at the MiC factory should be under the instruction and supervision of a licensed plumber and registered plumbing worker fulfilling the minimum supervision requirements stipulated by the WSD. They are required to adhere to the supervision plan agreed by the WSD and keep proper supervision records. WSD or its agent will carry out audit on implementation of the supervision plan.

Interim Inspection of Plumbing Installations to be Covered Up in MiC Factory

WSD will arrange Inspection Agents to carry out interim inspection in the MiC factory before the concealed parts of the plumbing installation are covered up. Inspection Agents will also carry out audit check on the supervision records at the factory.

Final Inspection at Building Site in Hong Kong and Commissioning Requirements

WSD will carry out Final Inspection of the plumbing installations of MiC projects upon completion of plumbing works at the building site in Hong Kong. Approval of plumbing works of the MiC project will be granted by the WSD subject to:

  1. satisfactory results of the final inspection by the WSD at the building site;
  2. satisfactory results of the interim inspections by the WSD’s Inspection Agent of the concealed parts of the plumbing works before they are covered up in the MiC factory; and
  3. compliance with the commissioning requirements specified by the WSD.
