WELS on Urinal Equipment - Advisory Notes
Sensor type urinal flushing valves
- The applicant may have different models of urinal equipment which use identical urinal flushing valves. For example, different models of urinal equipment are using different types/designs of smart demand operation while the mechanical structure and model of their urinal flushing valves are identical. In this case, a report on tests of the urinal flushing valve as required by Section II of Annex I of the Scheme Document can be applied to different models of urinal equipment using identical urinal flushing valve component. However, separate application for each model of urinal equipment and clear indication on the respective test report and certificate identifying the combination of urinal flushing valve and the sensor are still required.
- There is no testing requirement for the smart demand operation. The test result stated in Section III of Annex I of the Scheme Document for verifying the smart demand operation refers to a verification of the existence of such smart demand operation being claimed by the applicant.
- The requirement of physical endurance and leakage test, which is the same requirement in conformity with the Waterworks Ordinance and Regulations, is applicable to urinal flushing valve only but not the smart demand operation. For instance, if the urinal flushing valve itself has fulfilled the performance requirements specified in Section 5.4 of the Scheme Document or the requirements in conformity with the Waterworks Ordinance and Regulations, physical endurance and leakage test for the combination of urinal flushing valve and sensor would not be necessary.
