Water Supplies Department (WSD) held the Certificate Presentation Ceremony for Water Conservation Ambassador 2011/12 on 6 July 2012 at the Y-Square in Chai Wan. The Director of Water Supplies, Mr Ma Lee-tak and other officiating guests presented certificates to the new Water Conservation Ambassadors for their achievements in reducing water usage in daily life.
The "Water Conservation Starts from Home" promotional campaign was rolled out among all primary schools by the WSD in 2009, of which the "Water Conservation Ambassadors Selection Scheme" is one of the major activities. Participating students were required to submit the number of their household members and their fresh water consumption amount. Students who showed good performances in saving water would be appointed as Water Conservation Ambassadors. The scheme aims at promoting water saving among the young generation.
More than 4,000 students took part in the scheme this year. 587 of them were selected as Water Conservation Ambassadors and some students have even been awarded for the second time, reflecting water saving has become a habit of these awardees and their family members. This year, the scheme also introduced inter-school awards, including "School Commendation" and "Top 10 Active Participation Schools", to acknowledge schools' effort and support on promoting water conservation on campus. Lists of awardees are as follows:
