In order to introduce the technologies and water purification facilities of water treatment, Ngau Tam Mei Water Treatment Works was opened for public visit on on 2 November 2013 (Saturday). Over 800 visitors were guided by our staff for a technical tour on the whole water treatment process with exhibitions on Biosensing Alert System, Wave-powered Cleaning System, Save Water Cherish Our World, Replacement and Rehabilitation of Water Mains, Flushing Water Plumbing Quality Maintenance Recognition Scheme and Quality Water Recognition Scheme for Buildings. The event was also listed as one of the "Hong Kong: Our Home" public participation campaign.
Moreover, more than 120 secondary school students were invited to join the World Water Monitoring Challenge 2013. Students were provided with test kits to check the quality of raw water at Ngau Tam Mei Water Treatment Works by measuring four basic indicators - temperature, acidity, dissolved oxygen and turbidity. The activity is part of an international education and outreach programme which aims to build public awareness and involvement in protecting water resources.
