The Salt Water Supply System for Northwest New Territories of the Water Supplies Department (WSD) aims to supply seawater to the residents in Tuen Mun east, Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai for toilet flushing so as to save precious fresh water. To celebrate the commissioning of the system, the WSD has organised the Commissioning of Salt Water Supply System for Northwest New Territories cum ISO 50001 Certificate Presentation Ceremony on 21st March 2015 at Lok On Pai Salt Water Pumping Station in Tuen Mun. The Secretary for Development, Mr Paul Chan, and the Director of Water Supplies, Mr Enoch Lam, were invited to officiate at the ceremony.
To commend the WSD for its efforts in achieving energy efficiency, representative from the British Standards Institution had presented the International Organization for Standardisation (ISO) 50001 certificate for energy management to the WSD at the ceremony. The WSD is the first government department receiving the ISO 50001 certification and the system covers the whole department including the Headquarters, five offices, one mechanical and electrical workshop and over 140 water installations.
