Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant Open Day 2024

The Water Supplies Department (WSD) will organise the Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant Open Day on 24 November 2024 (Sunday).  Members of the public can visit the desalination plant facilities to understand the water treatment processes, including but not limited to the reverse osmosis technology as well as the scientific knowledge related to desalination treatment.  A thematic exhibition of 60th anniversary of the Dongjiang water supply to Hong Kong and various game booths will also be set up to introduce the efficient and reliable water supply services, and the importance of water conservation.

General Public

Free shuttle service to Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant will be provided to visitors on event days. Prior online registration is required. Each applicant may receive a maximum of four tickets free of charge. The visit is available in different time slots for registration. If there is oversubscription, selection will be made by computer balloting. The online registration system  will accept applications from 15 October 3pm to 4 November 6pm.  Successful applicants will receive e-tickets through email on or before 11 November.

  

Group Visit

Group reservations are welcome.  For reservation, please complete and submit the group visit application form by email (public_relations_unit@wsd.gov.hk) on or before 8 November 2024 (Friday).  The reservation is on a first-come, first-served basis.  Please arrange your own transport for the group visit.

 

Free Shuttle Bus Service

Visitors can use the e-tickets to take free shuttle bus (round trip) to Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant.

Rules for Visit

  1. WSD reserves the right of final decision on the admission and visit reservation.
  2. For safety consideration, children aged 12 or below must be accompanied by an adult for admission to the Tseung Kwan O desalination plant.
  3. Do not smoke or eat during the visit.
  4. Please follow the guidance from our staff to carry out visit along the designated route. Do not enter the restricted area.
  5. There will be filming and photo shooting for participants during the event.  The ownership of the footage and photos belong to WSD and may be used for the purpose of promotion and publicity of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Water Supplies Department, and Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant in the future without prior notice.
  6. No parking space is provided (except group visits). Unauthorized vehicles are not allowed to enter the water treatment works.
  7. No activities, banners, buntings, placement of publicity materials, photography, video or other recordings of any kind, including but not limited to, relating to or for media or commercial purposes are allowed unless with prior written approval.
  8. Please look after your personal belongings. For found item, please contact our staff.  WSD reserves the right to deal with any unattended object in the manner as considered appropriate.  
  9. Pets are not allowed to enter the desalination plant.
  10. WSD reserves the rights to amend the above rules of visit without prior notice.

 

Inclement Weather Special Arrangement

  1. If there are special circumstances or adverse weather warning, such as Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No.8 or above; or Red/Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is to be hoisted or has been hoisted, all activities scheduled for the day will be postponed or cancelled.  WSD will also suspend the shuttle bus service to Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant until further notice.  Programme updates will be announced via e-mail, WSD website or Water Save Dave Facebook page.
  2. The event will continue if Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No.3; or Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal is in force during the event.  Outdoor attractions might be suspended subject to the weather condition.   Any changes in the visiting arrangements will be announced on site.
