Water Supplies Department (WSD) will facilitate taking forward any appropriate proposals for gainful utilization of the space on the rooftops of service reservoirs for recreational and other activities. Over the past years, a number of service reservoir roofs have been used as sports grounds, sitting-out areas, parks, playgrounds and training fields, etc. Under the current practice, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, other government departments and private organizations may approach WSD for any proposed use of a service reservoir roof.
There are total 232 service reservoirs in the territory and 101 numbers of those are open for application. In case the proponent is a private organization, support from the relevant policy bureau in regard to the proposed use is required. If WSD considers the proposed use of the service reservoir roof is suitable, the proponent can submit a formal application to the District Lands Office concerned for an allocation of the service reservoir roof for the proposed use. If such allocation is subsequently granted to the proponent, the allocatee is required to manage the facilities pertaining to the proposed use according to conditions imposed by WSD to avoid any damage to the service reservoir and contamination of the water stored therein.
