Visitors are required to undergo a rapid antigen test (RAT) for COVID-19 on the day of the visit and obtain a negative result before entering the water treatment works. Visitors should take photos to record the RAT result and present the relevant records for inspection of our staff before entering he water treatment works. If any visitors fails to present proof of a negative result of RAT, they are required to complete the Declaration Form for Negative Result of Rapid Antigen Test for COVID-19 for record purpose.
In celebrating the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Water Supplies Department (WSD) will organize the Ma On Shan Water Treatment Works Open Day on 8 and 9 October 2022 (Saturday and Sunday). Members of the publics can join guided tours by our staff to visit the water treatment works facilities to understand the water treatment process as well as the scientific knowledge related to water treatment.
We also set up a special exhibition providing an overview of the water supply in Hong Kong and a number of development projects in recent years to echo with long-term city development as well as to building Hong Kong as a green and sustainable smart city.

All members of the public are welcomed to participate in the Open Day. Free shuttle service to Ma On Sha Water Treatment Works will be provided to visitors. Admission tickets are required for all visitors and are available free of charge at all Customer Enquiry Centres of WSD starting from 5 September 2022 (Monday). Each person may be given at most four tickets on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Group Visit
Reservation of group visit is welcomed. For reservation of group visits, please complete the group visit application form and submit the application form by fax (2511 9080) or email (public_relations_unit@wsd.gov.hk) on or before 23 September 2022. Free Shuttle Bus Service
Visitors can use the admission tickets to take free shuttle bus (round trip) to Ma On Shan Water Treatment Works.
Shuttle bus service hour: 10 am – 4 pm
Pick-up point: On Luk Street, Ma On Shan (near bus terminus at Sunshine City)
WSD reserves the right of final decision on the admission and visit reservation.
For safety reason, participants of guided tours must be aged 8 or above. Children aged 12 or below must be accompanied by an adult for admission to the water treatment works.
According to the conditional exemption pursuant to the Prevention and Control of Disease (Prohibition on Group Gathering) Regulation (Cap. 599G), visitors must abide with the following anti-epidemic measures:

Visitors (except for participants who are aged below 12 or aged 65 or above and those with disabilities that render use of the app difficult. However, they are required to complete a record form for registration. They are also required to present relevant identification documents for verification at the request of the staff on-site during registration. The staff will also verify the contact numbers by making phone calls.) are required to bring with them a smartphone having installed the "LeaveHomeSafe" mobile application throughout the visit and are required to scan the "LeaveHomeSafe" QR code whenever they enter the water treatment works.
Visitors are required to fulfill the prevailing Vaccine Pass requirements to receive COVID-19 vaccine(s) unless he/she is aged below 5 or holding a valid medical certificate stating that he/she is unfit, on medical ground, to be administered with a COVID-19 vaccine. For details of the Vaccine Pass requirements, please visit the COVID-19 Thematic Website. In addition, persons under categories of Red Code or Amber Code of Vaccine Pass shall not attend the event. Our staff will check the vaccination records of the visitors before entering the water treatment works. Once it is found that the prevailing Vaccine Pass requirements cannot be fulfilled, the right of visit of the persons will be cancelled. Considering that participants aged below 12 may not possess a smart moblie phone for displaying their Vaccine Pass QR code, their family members may bring along and present a paper record printed with the QR code or present a photo of the QR code saved in a mobile phone for the purpose of fulfilling the Vaccine Pass requirement.
Visitors are required to check their body temperature before entering the water treatment works. For public health reason, WSD will reject entry of persons with fever or respiratory symptoms.
Please wear facemask throughout the visit and maintain appropriate social distance with other visitors.
Do not smoke or eat during the visit.
With respect to the pandemic situation, WSD will impose restrictions to control number of visitors within the water treatment works.
Do not enter the restricted area. Please follow the guidance from our staff to carry out visit along the designated route.
No parking space is provided. Unauthorized vehicles are not allowed to enter the water treatment works.
No activities, banners, buntings, placement of publicity materials, photography, video or other recordings of any kind, including but not limited to, relating to or for media or commercial purposes are allowed unless with prior written approval.
Please look after your personal belongings. For found item, please contact our staff. WSD reserves the right to deal with any unattended object in the manner as considered appropriate.
Pets are not allowed to enter the water treatment works.
The event will be suspended if Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No.8 or above; or Red/Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is in force within 3 hours before the commencement of the event or during the event. WSD will also suspend the shuttle bus service to Ma On Shan Water Treatment Works until further notice.
The event will continue if Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No.3; or Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal is in force during the event. Outdoor attractions might be suspended subject to the weather condition. Any changes in the visiting arrangements will be announced on site.
